Backgammon Free Rolls Are a Game Changer

Backgammon free rolls can be one of the most devastating happenings against any running game.  I’m a fast paced backgammon player, so I always look for a running game right out of the gates.  It’s a great strategy but it leaves you open to your opponent attacking your checkers.  If you play a running game, you have to be smart.  I play fast from the opening of the game, conscious of lone checkers.  And, if my opponent doesn’t defend well, I’ll run him right off the board.   But, in the case my opponent defends well and begins blocking my moves or hitting my checkers I have to be careful to slow down or risk falling to backgammon free rolls.

When your opponent blocks you from moving or hits your checkers, you cannot move and therefore have to forfeit one or more turns, giving your opponent backgammon free rolls.  This can be devastating, allowing your opponent to further block you, advance, or opens your checkers to being hit further.  Because of this, you need to have control of both a fast and slow backgammon game.

If the backgammon board becomes hostile, slow down, build defenses and fortify.  Look to turn the tables and block your opponent’s moves and hit their checkers thereby giving you backgammon free rolls.  If you can do that then you can quickly transfer back in to a fast game with your opponent immobilized.  If you play your checkers right, you might even be able to run the board and bear off before you opponent can regroup.
